Charlotte Young Bowens (Producer/Director)


Long time activist/organizer, mother of three amazing children, writer and emerging filmmaker native of Ann Arbor, Michigan living in Los Angeles, California where she works for the International Documentary Association.

She served as a National Field Organizer for the Human Rights campaign. Her community activism includes non-profit organizational start-up, management, political campaigns, events management and volunteer service to several community based and national political and social service organizations. She studied biochemistry at the University of Detroit Mercy and as is a widely published poet.

In February 1999, Ms. Young organized the historic first Unity Luncheon bringing together the African American religious community and the lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender community in Washington, DC at the largest African American Baptist church in the District of Columbia. The event garnered coverage in the metro section of the Washington Post and she was interviewed by numerous local radio, TV stations including the Tavis Smiley Show on BET.
